Congenital adrenal hypoplasia (CAH) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the adrenal glands. The adrenal glands are responsible for producing hormones that regulate metabolism, the immune system, and other bodily functions. In people with CAH, the adrenal glands do not produce enough of the hormones cortisol and aldosterone. This can lead to a variety of symptoms, including low blood pressure, low blood sugar, and salt imbalances. It can also cause problems with growth and development. Treatment for CAH typically involves hormone replacement therapy and lifestyle changes.
