Description

Boutonneuse fever, also known as Mediterranean spotted fever, is a bacterial infection caused by Rickettsia conorii. It is spread by the bite of an infected tick, usually the dog tick. Symptoms of the infection include fever, headache, muscle pain, and a rash that appears as small, red spots on the body. Treatment typically involves antibiotics, such as doxycycline, and supportive care.
