Congenital ichthyosis is a group of rare inherited skin disorders that are present at birth. It is characterized by dry, thickened, and scaly skin. The skin may appear to be covered in fish-like scales, hence the name ichthyosis. Symptoms vary from mild to severe and can affect any part of the body. Treatment typically involves the use of moisturizers and topical medications to reduce scaling and itching.
