Description

An extradural brain abscess is a rare type of brain abscess that occurs outside of the dura mater, the outermost layer of the meninges that covers the brain and spinal cord. It is usually caused by a bacterial infection that spreads from the middle ear, sinuses, or teeth. Symptoms of an extradural brain abscess include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, and confusion. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and surgery to drain the abscess.
