Lumbago is a term used to describe pain in the lower back. It is usually caused by a strain or sprain of the muscles and ligaments in the lower back. Symptoms of lumbago can include pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving the lower back. Treatment for lumbago typically includes rest, ice, heat, physical therapy, and medications. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to treat the underlying cause of the lumbago.
