Description

A non-ossifying fibroma (NOF) is a benign bone tumor that is most commonly found in children and adolescents. It is a type of fibrous dysplasia, which is a condition in which normal bone is replaced by fibrous tissue. NOF is usually asymptomatic and does not cause any pain or discomfort. It is usually discovered incidentally on an X-ray or other imaging study. NOF does not spread to other parts of the body and does not become cancerous. Treatment is usually not necessary, but if the tumor is causing pain or other symptoms, it can be surgically removed.
