Cetylpyridinium is an antiseptic and antimicrobial agent used in a variety of products, including mouthwashes, toothpastes, and throat lozenges. It is also used as an active ingredient in some over-the-counter cold and flu medications. It works by killing bacteria and other microorganisms that can cause infections.
Common side effects of cetylpyridinium include a burning sensation in the mouth, throat, or stomach; dry mouth; and a bitter taste. It may also cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
