Gentisic acid is an organic compound that is found naturally in plants and is used in the production of certain drugs. It is a phenolic acid, meaning it contains a hydroxyl group attached to a benzene ring. It is used as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, and is found in many over-the-counter medications.
Gentisic acid is toxic in high doses, and can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It can also cause liver and kidney damage, and can be fatal in extreme cases.
