Description

Veratrum is a genus of flowering plants in the family Melanthiaceae, commonly known as false hellebore. It is a toxic substance that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. It contains a variety of alkaloids, including veratridine, jervine, and cevadine, which have a variety of pharmacological effects.

Veratrum is used to treat a variety of conditions, including hypertension, heart failure, and asthma. It is also used as an abortifacient and to induce labor.
