Salicylic acid is a type of beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that is used as a topical treatment for acne, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. It works by exfoliating the skin, reducing inflammation, and unclogging pores. It is also used as an ingredient in some over-the-counter wart removers.
Common side effects of salicylic acid include skin irritation, redness, dryness, and peeling. It can also cause contact dermatitis in some people.
