Bladder neck obstruction is a condition in which the bladder neck, the area where the bladder connects to the urethra, becomes narrowed or blocked. This can cause difficulty with urination, including a weak or slow stream, difficulty starting to urinate, and a feeling of incomplete emptying. It can also cause urinary retention, which is when the bladder does not empty completely. Bladder neck obstruction is usually caused by an enlarged prostate in men, but can also be caused by scar tissue, tumors, or other conditions. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include medications, lifestyle changes, or surgery.
