Description

Chronic idiopathic myelofibrosis (CIMF) is a rare, chronic, progressive disorder of the bone marrow. It is characterized by the replacement of normal bone marrow with fibrous tissue, leading to a decrease in the production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This can cause anemia, fatigue, easy bruising, and an increased risk of infection. CIMF is a type of myeloproliferative neoplasm, which is a group of disorders that cause the bone marrow to produce too many cells. It is considered an idiopathic disorder, meaning that the cause is unknown. Treatment options include medications, blood transfusions, and bone marrow transplantation.
