Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This results in the body's inability to produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels, leading to high levels of glucose in the blood. Symptoms of T1DM include increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and weight loss. Treatment for T1DM typically involves insulin injections, lifestyle changes, and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels.
